Considered by many to be the most prestigious university-level mathematics examination in the world, the Putnam Competition matches undergraduate college students from the United States and Canada against one another, awarding scholarships and signicant cash prizes for high scores.
The competition typically takes place on the first Saturday in December, and consists of two three-hour sittings separated by a lunch break. The test is supervised by faculty members at the participating schools (so students don't have to drive anywhere). Each student attempts to solve twelve problems, whose solutions typically involve only basic knowledge of college mathematics but require extensive creative thinking. Problems and solutions from past competitions (back to 2017) can be found here.
More information can be found at the Putnam Competition website. Students interested in registering for this year's Putnam Competition should contact Paul Oser (poser3@emory.edu).
